Sometimes the simple truths are the most profound: just wash the dishes.

Unlike Dana's book on decluttering, I'm not the intended audience for this book - I'm not quite as much a slob as she's targeting.

That said, if you need inspiration for getting on top of managing your home, its an easy read, with clear and easy to implement processes to help you figure out getting on top of things.

This was a quick, easy audible listen. It was motivating and helpful. I especially like her idea that not only is each room in your house a “container” but your house itself is one. In thinking this way, if there isn’t enough room in these “containers” then you need to get rid of some things. She inspired me to not consider decluttering as a big, overwhelming project (where you have to empty your entire laundry room and only put a few items back in) but instead just doing a little decluttering each day eventually adds up to major progress. If we see it as a huge project it feels too daunting and will never get done. Her advice helped me get rid of a lot of clutter I’ve been “saving” for years.

There were a couple of good tips, but not every blog should be a book. Some writing does better as a blog, and I suspect this is one of those cases.

I’m not knocking the book. I’m sure it is useful to the target audience. I was looking for ideas for streamlining or speeding up the mundane daily tasks. This is for the very overwhelmed housekeeper who has no idea where to start. Thankfully my kids are past the toddler-preschool stage where this book might have been helpful.

Good motivation to get a handle on house management. I took a few tips away but I'm still searching for the holy grail on this topic.

No book has ever spoken directly to my soul like this one. This is the first home management/organizing/decluttering book Ive read that's for people like me -- true slobs. No, I mean REAL slobs. All of you out there thinking you are a slob because you haven't dusted the living room for a month can hush. Dusting doesn't even come up in this book, that's how bad we're talking.

PS All the low ratings are from people who seem baffled that anyone would need a book like this, which just goes to show you...

Umm...this book basically changed my life. If you want hope for your home --- read this. You won't be sorry. Also, she's funny. Recommend the audiobook as she reads it and it is very entertaining. I devoured it very quickly! And then listened again! She answered every question and possible objection I had as I was reading. Really well researched and presented. It was nice to finally hear cleaning/home management advice from someone with the same brain.

And I would start here. I wouldn't start with her website or podasts (truly!). I'm obsessed with this book as it is organized and well presented. Everything on her website is boiled down to this book. And her podcasts are okay, but generally scattered (sorry if you're reading this Dana!) and the audio quality is not always good. Just go for the book and I HIGHLY recommend doing the audiobook. You won't be sorry.
