Just as amusing and relevant today as it was in the 19th century.

This was really funny despite being Georgian theatre. Would love to see a production of this, obsessed with the elements of gossip and higher class society being pulled apart for what it is unknowningly.

I had low expectations for this play, assigned reading for a 1700s English class. However, it surprised me by being a fun—and funny!—read, and I caught myself laughing out loud on a public bus while reading one of the ridiculous gossip scenes. This play is not without faults. There are a few characters/situations that are culturally insensitive to a modern audience (a very stereotypical Jewish moneylender was a topic of class discussion) and detract from the contemporary feel of the rest of the play. Overall, The School for Scandal doesn’t take long to get through and is definitely worth the read.

A ridiculous and surprisingly amusing Restoration comedy, Sheridan's 'School for Scandal' was entertaining from beginning to end. I'm not the biggest fan of Restoration drama, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this play. It doesn't take itself seriously, has all of the insane key ingredients for a proper comedy (unrequited love, observed conversations, observers revealed, the comeuppance of the bad(der) characters, a happy ending, and plenty of wit and wordplay), and has enough twists and turns (albeit easily foreseeable ones) to keep the plot interesting. As a late-seventeenth century comedy of manners, it can't help but remind me of Oscar Wilde's work, and it should prove enjoyable for anyone who likes that kind of humor.

un sálvame pero peor porque acaba en un "happy ending" (para el patriarcado). encima arruinan a mi personaje favorito que era una leyenda del consumismo.
