Didn't get far but flicked through to some random pages to make sure it wasn't just the beginning, but no - the whole book is a series of bleakly negative essays on random subjects related to travel. I'd highly recommend "Drive your plough over the bones.of the dead" by the same author instead.

I was expecting this to be fiction, but it’s a memoir. Tokarczuk is a great writer, but she comes off insufferably flakey and self-absorbed here. Too many good books out there to suffer through one that’s unimportant, at least, if not necessarily objectively bad.

This was without a doubt one of my favorite books I have ever read. It captured all the strange, nearly unfathomable feelings we all have and yet never discuss. It shows a complicated web of connections, even passing glances that can drive two people together forever. It is whimsical and real, haunting and down-to-earth. It is truly a representation of humanity

I'm not a fan of short story collections so I probably shouldn't have picked up this book, but I really enjoy Olga's writing. I could not tell you any of the plot of each story, it all felt quite random and I lost interest a lot.
