The stakes just keep getting higher in every book, but I love the mix of down and out Henry just trying to get by, do the right thing, and survive, but also save the world.

reading these books is like eating a clementine with seeds. it’s super enjoyable but every so often dresden remarks on a woman’s nipples, or thinks “young enough to make a man feel guilty for thinking the wrong thoughts, but old enough to make it difficult not to,” and then you’re like YUCK why does this clementine have seeds!!

believe it or not, the misogyny is getting better (as in, i think we’re getting less of it?), but if i mention it every time i do a review then i think i’d pass away. it gets four stars because i LOVE Faerie politics and my moral compass isn’t that strong

Harry Dresden, wizard for the mortal people of Chicago. This go around Harry has hit rock bottom after his girlfriend was hurt in his last escapade. No work, no money and doesn’t care is a pretty good description. A friend helps him snap out of it and before you know it he’s right back trying to keep himself alive. Between the vampires, white council and the fae, he and his friends almost end up dead. As always there is an awesome cast of characters, non stop action/mystery and a very well written story line. You won’t be able to put this one down !

A fun entry that sees Dresden dealing with the fallout of the previous book, as well as delving into the world of the fae. We finally see the White Council and reconnect with the werewolves from Fool Moon.

Oh yeah, this fourth book in the Dresden Files series is my favorite so far. Yes, Harry and the writing were still annoying to me in many of the ways I found annoying in the first three, but the fantastical world-building, plot and characters were much stronger than the first three books and overall I really liked it.

I read the first 3 books and was lukewarm on the series. But I roommate pushed me to keep going. And oh WOW does Book 4 deliver. Harry gets some allies and works as a team and kicks major butt. Solid 5 stars
