Summer Knight

Another great read from Jim Butcher. Even though I know that Harry wouldn't die afterall it's only book four in the series I was gripped right from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. I had to know who killed the Summer Knight and why did they do it? Would the White Council support Harry?

My favorite of the Dresden Files (so far).
Let's face it, Harry can get a bit maudlin, but in this down-the-rabbit-hole race of a story, he hardly has time. I like that. Less "poor me, the world is against me", more "blow up the bad guys with this little stick"!

Kate and chose this audiobook for our car-trip listening and enjoyed it together a lot. She's asked me to get more, so this goes in the winner pile right away.

The Dresden Files are one of Jesse's favorite series. He re-reads or listens to the series at least once a year. He's wanted me to dive into Harry's world for a decade and he finally realized that if he wants me to read them, he's going to have to read them to me. So that's what he's doing, every night as a I fall asleep, Jesse reads to me.

Best husband ever.

I think he hoped I would be so invested I'd start reading them myself, but now I'm spoiled. I have no idea of what has happened in what book because he just keeps reading when he finishes one. We're up to #7.

I know these ARE great books, I mean, there are like 100 books in the series. BUT that's also why I'm NOT INTERESTED in reading them. My reading life is scattered like I am. I DO NOT have lists of books I want to read, I have stacks of books that I may or may not want to read at any given moment. I'm a mood reader and I'm rarely in the mood to read another book in the fantasy world written by another white dude OR one that someone has recommended to me. Don't ask me why, but if there's even a hint that someone is 'telling' me to read the book, I will not read it.

This is why I cannot join a book club. I'd never read the book!

Jesse is SO judgmental about these "counting" toward the books i've read this year, but I have to actively listen -- which takes WAY more of my attention than reading. AND I could be reading anything else before bed, but I am CHOOSING to listen. So I'm counting them as audiobooks. Suck it, hubs!

I'm really enjoying this series. The final battles are so over the top. It's unbelievable that Dresden can ever get through another one, but he always does (with a little help from some friends). I love the different characters and hope to see Susan and Elaine in future books. This was #4, I know I'm late to this series, but that means there are lots for me to read and no waiting!

Another excellent Dresden novel - they keep getting better.

I freaking LOVE Harry Dresden!
adventurous funny fast-paced

Started slow but developed to a crackling ending!

Either Butcher's writing has improved or Dresden is growing on me--a la George Costanza
