I mean, the art. COME ON.
I also love that while this book addresses gender obliquely, it doesn't do any of the things that have annoyed my in other books where gender expression gets flattened and oversimplified. There are notes in the back for adult readers to facilitate understanding and discussion, but the bulk of the book is just focused on thinking about how to respect and love someone who doesn't fit into neat categories.
And this is besides the point, but the illustrations of Maddy are giving me SERIOUS gender envy.

Holy *insert favorite expression here* this book is AMAZING. If you want to fully cry over a childrens book, buy this. If your child is non binary or you are non binary, buy this. If you want to be a better ally or teacher or coach or librarian or friend….Buy this book. It is beautiful and wonderful.

A book full of things that are neither one thing or another but both and themselves.
Like a spork, or a motorbike. Or Maddy.
Gentle and supportive, with a couple of pages of notes for readers.

This book is about a parent and a child. The parent is neither a mommy or a daddy, so the child calls her parent Maddy. I'm not sure that I would include this book in my classroom because I think it might be a little confusing or over the children's head.

This is the first picture book I've seen featuring a nonbinary parent. I hope there are many more in our libraries in the coming years. I had not heard the term Maddy before (combination of mommy and daddy) either. The first page brought tears to the eyes of a nonbinary family member. Seeing representation is so important for everyone.

this is so cute & wonderful. Love all the examples of things that are sometimes both, and neither, and a whole new thing entirely.

Truly lovely book! A wonderful way for people to understand gender fluidity in a gentle way.

“Some of the best things in the world are not one thing or the other, but in between, and kind of both, and something else entirely fantastically their own.”
Cute story about a non binary parent not fitting the definition of a traditional mom or dad.
