It's subtitled: "A love story" and that it definitely is. But Lewis's ego gets in the way about 2/3 of the way through ... as the strain in their original partnership has to be explained. Still it's a very good book.

This was a wonderful glimpse into the iconic partnership. It made me dislike them slightly with their arrogance and bigotry at times. To see all the names of the 50s and drama was definitely entertaining.

It was fun at first. Then it became tedious.

I discovered Martin and Lewis back in high school. Originally I just knew of Dean b/c of his music and my obsession with the Rat Pack, but everyone knows once you type Dean Martin into a search engine, at some point "and Jerry Lewis" will pop up with it. From then on I would watch the biopic on them, and on Youtube I'd watch their appearance on What's My Line, their broadcasted 1976 reunion that Frank Sinatra set up, and episode after episode of them on the Colgate Comedy Hour. I had actually just been watching one of those episodes when I heard of his passing :(
I know some of what is said in this book shows Jerry's ego, then again he even admits that. I think everything has already been said about their career together, their split, and their successful solo careers after, so I won't say much other than when all is said and done, you could tell Jerry was devastated by their breakup. He always saw Dean as the older brother he never had and it hurt that he was losing him. And even more so when Dean passed away in 1993.

"I lost my partner and best friend. The man who made me the man I am today. I think of him with undying respect. I miss him everyday I'm still here. I've considered the idea of our getting together again someday, but I believe when we die we are just put away and life goes on. My prayer to be with him again isn't realistic, but I'll live the rest of my life with the memory of a great and wonderful man, my partner, Dean Martin..."

I agree with you. I'm not quite sure what to believe is out there after we go, if anything at all, but I hope that if there is something you're there now and you've finally gotten to see Dean again after all these years. Because no matter how it all ended between you two, and who was more at fault for it, I know you loved him very much.

Rest in Peace Jerry Lewis

3.5 Stars. This was so enjoyable on audio. The guy who narrates can really sound like Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin. You don't have to be a Martin and Lewis fan (I'm not) to enjoy this tale of a golden era in Hollywood. Perfect Quarantine reading. Like a candy bar or a People magazine.

A fascinating peek into the lives of these two (and those around them). Heartbreaking but a beautiful tribute.
