In this book, we follow Tookie, an Ojibwe woman who went to prison after being set up by the woman she loved. After her sentence is commuted, she gets a job at a bookstore with her former teacher (Birchbark Books in Minneapolis). After one of her regular customer dies, Tookie and the bookstore become haunted. 

It takes place from 2019 All Souls day to 2020 All Souls day, and in the middle of the book it gets sharply into the Pandemic, George Floyd's murder, and the collasal impact of both these keystone events. 

It makes sense. Honestly it felt just like it did in Feb and March 2022. Nothing was untouched by it, even our troubled ghosts. 

I found the writing painfully beautiful and honest. I loved all the characters. I loved every minute I listened to the audio book. I will be thinking about this book for a long time. 

This book is about family, love, secrets, and healing. It gives voice to an Indigenous family, and it offers a glimpse into a number of Tribal cultures
