More like 3.5/5 stars

Better than the other two books for sure. The ending was disappointing and didn't resolve or conclude anything, so it's an unfinished story. Not a bad read though.

I Am the Traitor is the exciting conclusion to the Unknown Assassin Trilogy. It’s full of just what I’ve come to expect from this series – action, intrigue, double crossing, twists and a dash of romance. In this book, Zach is on the run, trying to discover what really happened to his father all those years ago. In order to do that, he has to rescue Howard, who has been captured and who Zach is sure is being questioned – and possibly worse – so that the Program can find out what Zach knows. Of course, Zach can’t manage this rescue mission completely alone, but he doesn’t know who he should trust. There’s Mike, who claims he wants to help Zach (and now claims that Zach’s father is dead, just like Zach was told all those years ago), and then there’s Tanya, who Zach discovers along with Howard and just can’t bring himself to leave behind. But Zach has learned that going against the Program is very dangerous and every step that he takes might put himself and the people he’s trying to protect in even more danger.

What I enjoyed:

Action and suspense.
Usually, I give multiple bullet points on my likes and dislikes about a book, but everything amazing about this book can be pretty much summed up with this one category. Just like the first two books, this third installment was filled with action and suspense. Zach is pretty much used to running for his life at this point, but this time, he has other people with him that he wants to protect. Then there’s the little matter of trying to figure out who he should trust – it’s almost impossible because everyone has ulterior motives, and Zach is constantly having to calculate the odds to determine whether it’s worth the risk of trusting the people around him. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn’t. But Zach definitely isn’t willing to give up without finding out what happened to his father. This leads to a lot of action-packed scenes and tons of twists and turns as Zach struggles to learn the truth about his father and about the Program itself. Nothing is as it seems, and Zach is constantly being manipulated – the question is, by whom, and what is their final endgame? Finding out just might cost Zach his life!

The negatives:

The ending.
I was surprised that the ending seemed so open-ended. Not to say that the story that’s been building for the past three books wasn’t sufficiently tied up (it was, rather spectacularly!), but that this book’s ending almost seemed to hint at a completely new beginning. I almost wonder if there’s a spin-off series coming or something?

The romance.
Based on what I know about this series, I had serious difficulties with trusting Tanya. I just kept waiting for her to turn out to be something other than what she claimed to be. And I didn’t understand how Zach could possibly let her guard down around her so quickly because of his past experiences. This made it really hard to get completely on board with the romance portion of the book – I kept waiting for Tanya to turn traitor! (Not telling whether or not that happened, of course.)

Another exciting installment in the Unknown Assassin Trilogy. Zadoff gives us big payoff and a satisfying conclusion! I give this book 4/5 stars.

Good, but not as good as the rest of the series. Review to come.

4.5 stars, probably.

As always, the action and thrills in this story is amazing. The effectiveness of the scenes and the way they were executed were all excellent. I quite enjoyed the writing style, however bare and simple it was, it was also fresh and to the point.

The characters are mostly all fine in this book -- we get a few reveals about motives, a few new characters . . . however, none of them seem to develop much. Even our protagonist hasn't seemed to change much other than his overall view of the Program. The romance, especially, was a weak point of the story -- I hadn't even realized that he'd started liking her until . . . well, you know. That being said, the characters are all enjoyable as they are, but I would enjoy seeing them more developed.

Spoiler I also wanted to see more of Zach without his chip. While at the end, he had it removed, we didn't see him fight much or have that much of an emotional reaction. The ending itself, while was good and I don't really have a solid complaint, seemed a little quick to me. Open-ended, definitely, but I might like that.

Overall, this series was a blast. Solid action and decent characters -- I loved the story and the series on a whole was great.

Not a huge fan of the ending, but it’s still as wildly entertaining as the books before it. Sad to see it end 4.3/5

This was an exhilarating end to a very enjoyable series. In this final installment, Zach is trying to stay off The Program's grid while searching for his friend, Howard. At the same time, he's trying to learn the truth about what happened to his father.

As with the prior two novels, I couldn't put this one down. And Zach is growing more mature and independent, thinking more about what's right than following The Program's rules.

This series is well worth your time!

I loved this series! Normally, by the 3rd book the story loses my interest, but I continued to learn more and more about Boy Nobody's past family life and it kept my engagement! I can't wait to talk about this series with my students when school starts up again this fall.

A good book to end a good series. I've really enjoyed reading these. My favourite character was probably the tech kid (forgot his name sorry). Kinda wish the MCs trauma got more delved in to. I mean considering all he's been through and what happened at the end of this book it would've been interesting to watch the fallout of it all. Especially everything about his father. But overall the series was good. But if I was to compare this series to another similar series like Alex Rider I would rather read Alex Rider. Just because I find Alex more lovable. Honestly though, give this series a read if you like a good old teenage assassin storyline.

This was a not-quite-satisfying end to a very worthy series. I feel like after all this time, things got a little... predictable. Most of the big reveals happened in the SECOND BOOK (right? A bridge book is the most important book? Unheard of!), of all places. By now, it is evident who is on Zach's side, and who can't be trusted.

Zach is a smart and utterly suave mini-James Bond. He is like the everyday hero that we all hope for. The thing is, he doesn't really have a noble cause. By the end of it all, I can't help but wonder: what was the point? There was truth to the sentiment that Zach was selfish and careless. A most dangerous combination, considering his training. Where do they GO from here? What is the purpose any longer? I think it was far too brash to discard "threats" without truly understanding the scope of this program (since, well, no one does). Without those sources of information, he's exposed himself to even greater danger. Nevermind what the rest of the world supposedly thinks of him now.

I'm glad that we got some background understanding to the neurosurpressors and the motives behind their existence. I still enjoyed Zach's interactions with the latest femme-fatale flavour of the week, even though it's become expected. I'm also glad we got some closure on some of Zach's past demons, even if they didn't quite work out in his favour. This was a story that deserved to be seen through to its end, even though it was ultimately a little too predictable for my liking. Still, Zadoff's writing is as confident as ever, the story was simple but thoughtful, and a couple of the characters are some that I've come to love.
