This book has a fantastic, gritty feel that doesn't often appear in Star Wars novels. It feels like everyone could die at any moment! Shatterpoint is one of the few books I've recently listened to that doesn't get boring after the exposition. The new audiobook is fantastic! Mace Windu has always been kind of a side character and presented as a one-dimensional, overly conservative authority figure in the Prequel Trilogy and Clone Wars series. However, Matthew Stover does a fantastic job of fleshing Windu out to be a man conflicted by his role as a Jedi, both a soldier and a keeper of the peace.

I love what this adds to Windu’s backstory and character development. The author portrays the war in a gruesome way we don’t see in the movies, and while tough to read, it is an important factor in the overall universe.

Review: Star Wars: Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover (re-read. Audiobook)
Quotes: "When all choices seem wrong. Chose restraint."
"I've been carrying those images like a wound. They've festered in my mind. So inflamed and painful, I've had to cushion them with layers of denial.
Pain that makes a wound precious. When the slightest touch is agony, one must keep the wound so protected, so sequestered. That it becomes an object of reverence. Sacred."
"The heart has power no discipline can answer."
"I use the night, and the night uses me."
"For I know now what it means to be the keeper of the peace in the Galaxy of war. That is, it means nothing at all.
There is no peace. What we thought was the great peace of the republic was only a dream from which our galaxy has awakened."
Review: A jedi is accused of a horrible crime on a planet in separatists' territory. The Jedi accused happens to be Mace Windu's former student. Mace in disbelief, goes to investigate.
Once there, Windu is faced with the realities of a civil war. The line in warfare is quite blurry.
I liked learning about Windu's abilities in the force to see weaknesses in his opponents. Their "Shatterpoint" as he calls it.
Overall, I enjoyed this. But the strength of the book is also the weakness. Stover is a great writer, but I found this story to be a bit wordy. I like descriptive writing, but it gets old after a while. I absolutely think it could've been shorter and accomplished the same goal. I listened to this sped up to save some time as well. And it still felt long at times.
It was an interesting story, and it made me wish we got a Mace Windu movie in the early 2000s.
I give this 3.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for reading my review

Having just finished another Matthew Stover Star Wars book in which is was clear how much he loved Mace Windu I decided to try Shatterpoint. What follows is a review of the abridged audiobook:
This audiobook is abridged. I looked for an unabridged version. I don't think there is one. The full book seems like it would be great, but the abridged book is not. It is approximately half the length of the full book. It is abridged and it has lost its soul.
Do not listen to this abridged audiobook.
Maybe I will actually sit down and read the book sometime. That would be nice.
