This was a great audiobook. Sullivan Jones does an amazing job with the characters in this book. He’s not Samuel L. Jackson. But he absolutely is Mace Windu. Very entertaining experience and a very deep and emotional story.

A great legends book and an excellent addition the Essential Collection.

This is badly written in the same way as a lot of media tie-in novels, which makes me suspect that there is a style guide advising writers to overuse cliché phrases and to avoid pronouns etc. The writer may have set himself a challenge to use the made-up word from the title as often as possible. The story doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense (why does Depa Billaba go to so much trouble to call Mace Windu to Haruun Kal when she clearly doesn't want him there?) and the characterisations are shallow. Windu's military tactics also don't make sense, but that's normal for Star Wars. Just read Heart of Darkness or watch Apocalypse Now again instead.

One of, if not the best Star Wars legends books. It's Apocalypse Now meets Star Wars. It explores Mace Windu's background and delves into how the clone wars are changing Jedi and forcing them to question beliefs they've held for millenia. Windu is also forced to reckon with the toll war takes, and this also serves as a social commentary for the war on terror that was just beginning at the time (this was written in 2003).

Stover is an excellent writer-i already loved his revenge of the sith novelization so I was excited to read this. He is at his best getting into the mind of his main character (In this case Windu) and relaying the very real human costs of war.
