A solid first book. I came across it after watching a couple episodes of the show and look forward reading more.

I love listening to the Walt Longmire books. The narration is compelling, and Wyoming and its citizens vivid and quirky.

(a reread) I'm ready to pick up on the series but need a refresh of earlier books. I still rate it 4 stars! After a few years, I haven't changed my mind!

Not at all what I expected - sometimes the writing is beautiful... and other times it's so dated and somewhat ugly. The story is implausible but the situations are so well described that they could be real. Really enjoyed the slightly mystical slant.

Thankfully I began with the first book in this series about an old-school sheriff in small-town Wyoming. I love each and every character brought to life in this novel. Having spent my youth living on the low plains looking westward, Johnson's depiction of the high plains rings true.

You know how geese always fly in that V? And one side of the V is always longer?

Why is that?

Because there are more geese on side than the other.

I think that the show Longmire ruined this book for me. I love the show. And the characters. This book is just too different. And I prefer the characters from the show.

Except Henry. He is perfect in both.

I might give this series another chance at a later date.
