How is it possible that I enjoyed this book even more than the first one? Katniss’ world is in flux and it felt like there was a constant stream of twists and turns. This book definitely sets up the third book, but it didn’t feel like a middle book in a trilogy. It has much less fighting/hunger games than the first book but a lot of uncertainty and character development in the face of the Panem’s changes. My heart aches for Peeta…

I enjoyed the book but the original will always be my favourite. I wish the actual games were longer as the beginning seemed too long and stretched out for me. I liked how each chapter held a wedge of the arena though as it made the pace quicker and flow nicely. There was a lot more foreshadowing in this book than there was the original I feel and I enjoyed reading that and comparing it future events in the third. It’s slightly annoying how oblivious Katniss can be to the wider perception of the rebellion and how focused she is on Peeta but I think her selfishness is an essential part of her character and it makes her stand out from other protagonists. I prefer the books to the movies including the portrayal of the characters but especially Finnick’s and his and Katniss’ relationship - he and their friendship has many more layers and much more depth than is shown in the film. I wish they hadn’t missed the intricacy of each ally having their own given knowledge from the rebel group and the explanation of the plan and it’s origins. Also, Haymitch as always is my favourite although he was a little irritating at the end when he seemed annoyed with Katniss before she even spoke to them. Although this could just be Katniss’ perspective and his annoyance had nothing to do with her. I dislike the ending with Gale and how Katniss seemingly returns to her relationship with Gale simply because he is hurt again. From previous re-reads, I think I will enjoy the third book the least but I’m excited to re-read that too.

it was good but also made me constantly think about it which is sort of annoying when the people don’t do good things. Wasn’t really expecting the ending, but definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.

I initially DNF'd this book, but I eventually just had to continue reading months later. Science Fiction and Dystopian are two of my least favorite genres so that didn't help my experience.

I can see why Katniss Everdeen is so beloved among the reading community. She truly is a one-of-a-kind protagonist. Although, I'm a bit fed up with the Not Like Other Girls trope. :/

I also appreciate how the romance takes its place on the back burner. It lines up with Katniss's character and the plot. She honestly has better things to do.

My review might contain spoilers so be warned‼️‼️

Things I liked about the book:

•Peeta/Haymitch/Katniss trio dynamic
The reason why I'm putting this here is that it sets up a big twist in the end of the book that creates a BIG emotional turmoil and development in the third book

•Katniss' Mom finally has character!!
Rather than Katniss telling what she does, her mom actually does the nursing!! Yehey!!!

*Gale
Although I dislike him, he actually has use here and sets up Katniss questioning her morality not just in this book but in the third book as well

Things I did not like:

•The "I'm not like any other girls" is really annoying. I don't want to say the pages but it is highlighted on 3 pages

•I think as tho as Katniss in this book has gotten dumb. She has gotten so reckless to the point of not thinking that the government won't punish her family

•The whole subplot for love was stupid to me. I know that Suzanne was forced to add it but still

•There was this whole chapter/s about the victors being friendly with one another and while it is the last time they can be friendly with one another...since alot of them will die, I just think it should not have been added if there wasn't even a single emotional turmoil
