3.5 stars. this book was fascinating! while it may seem to be a sensationalized Jurassic Park style narrative it is in fact an in depth look into current genetic engineering advancements, bio ethics, climate change and ecology. I thought that the character development sections of the book were a bit weak. there was perhaps too much effort put into making these scientists larger than life so that they could easily populate a fictional thriller. otherwise I found myself in complete awe of the human ability to manipulate the environment. for better or for worse is yet to be seen I guess. definitely recommend this one.

This book is a mess. It's clickbait and bad science and terrible writing and what seems to be an utter lack of editing.

I've had this book for a bit. And back before the pandemic, I had tickets to a their tour with a meet and greet included. I was excited and wanted to make sure I read their book before going see them. But then everyone shut down, the show was indefinitely postponed, and I put this book on the back burner for a variety of reasons.

Now, though, the show is finally rescheduled and I find myself still having not read the book. I made a point to read it today (and opted to listen along because they read the audiobook themselves and that almost always makes for interesting reading) and am mostly not disappointed.

I've followed Trae for a few years now, so I knew what to expect regarding their beliefs. But I didn't expect to hear the "r" slur multiple times. That was disappointing, but this book was enjoyable, relatable (I'm from South Louisiana), and hilarious. I'm looking forward to the show and to hopefully getting my DTE signed.

It is such an interesting topic, but this book told the story of the de-extinction of the woolly mammoth in a clunky, trying too hard to be creative way. The jumping around in time was annoying and not well tied together, and the almost random background vignettes of George Church didn't add anything to the story, in my opinion. I would have liked to hear more about the science and the experiments rather than how Church exploded things in his backyard, which added nothing to the story. Also, Ben Mezrich should not be narrating his own audiobooks. He has one of the weirdest, most distracting ways of pronouncing the word "human" that I've ever heard, and overall he comes across as very wooden. Professional narrators exist for a reason.
