"And in their corner all they had was Murderbot, who just wanted everyone to shut up and leave it alone so it could watch the entertainment feed all day."
I loved this. Maybe I am a sci-fi girlie, after all.
"Mom, why is the fictional murderous android so relatable?" Listen. I am Murderbot. Murderbot is me. I have never related to a book character so much. I understand it. It says things that I would say. It was actually really funny to read.
The prose was great. It is straight to the point and funny. This and the use of the first person really allows us to get to know Murderbot and his personality. It speaks directly to the reader, and we also get to spend of lot of time in its head, which is great. It is a sarcastic introvert who is simply forced to interact when it would prefer staying in its corner and watch telev… No! The entertainment feed, sorry.
The other characters were also pretty compelling even though we do not get to know them that much (Mensah is MOTHER).
So, why not 5 stars? Well, I thought it was a little bit too simplistic and predictable. The story hit all the points and themes expected.
I still loved it.
