I loved the artwork. Some of the story was meh for me but overall I really liked most of it.

A little interlude before Attack of the Clones where we see Palpatine first digging his claws into a young Anakin that is considering leaving the Jedi altogether. It's a solid little story that is average in story and, in my opinion, art and color. A little on the nose, but I don't necessarily expect more from my Star Wars readings.

The prequel era is by far my least favorite Star Wars setting--the movies really ruined the stories that I'd looked forward to for most of my life. I don't enjoy the relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin, and so it's predictable the this graphic novel was going to be a hard sell for me. Setting it in the time between Episodes 1 and 2 was actually a really good choice. Though I didn't love the story, I liked it more than I expected. It reminded me a little bit of the Kanan graphic novel, which I also liked.

The geography, action, and side characters are as forgettable as any Star Wars graphic novel, but there are intriguing indications of the two protagonists' attitudes toward the Republic and the Jedi Order. Palpatine appears in an ongoing flashback story, and his character is about as un-subtle as it is in the movies, which is a disappointment. Star Wars really needed (and still needs) writers who can handle political intrigue. James Luceno and Alexander Freed come the closest, and I'm glad they're being given more important assignments related to Rogue One.

All in all, a decent Star Wars story, and probably the quickest graphic novel read of all the new canon so far. Worth checking out from the library. :)

While mostly enjoyable, there was a late twist that upped the stakes to the plot a page before the plot resolved. Anticlimactic end to an otherwise fun outing.

This was a miniseries set between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones following Obi-Wan and Anakin on a mission. There were parts I liked, including Anakin questioning whether he wanted to stay with the Jedi. He brings up a lot of the issues most people have with the Jedi and it was interesting to see him do so, especially given what we know in the rest of the prequels. And there's a kinda uncomfortable flashback between Palpatine and Anakin ("I don't want to be a dictator" lol okay). It was good to see him and Obi-Wan interact as well as Obi-Wan wondering if he's failing Anakin (already). I didn't care much for the mission which is why I rated this low.

This is my first Star Wars comic and god did I love it! I genuinely adore & enjoy the comics and novels accompanying the movies and shows in Star Wars because it gives you a whole new perspective of some characters and there's so much lore in this universe that the possibilities of what you can create feel endless. I am such a proud Star Wars girlie and I LOVE it!!
