What started as a fun space opera has turned into a slog of depressed, stressed characters with little interaction between them and lots of interaction with politicians who are in the way or other roadblocks. The story drags its feet and when I checked the reviews for part three to see if it is worth continuing it turned out to keep that up. While I am interested in the story, these books cannot keep me going. They feel too long and wordy, with little personal growth for the main cast. We are over 200 pages in and no relationship has changed or progressed, everyone is unprofessional and secretive and constantly says No to the people who could push some change. No thanks.

Tchaikovsky writes fast and he writes well. Eyes of the Void is a second entry in The Final Architecture trilogy. We meet the Vulture God Crew again, and unsurprisingly they are in the middle of the trouble affecting the whole of known universe. There’s plenty worldbuilding, lots of action and a reasonable amount of intrigue to keep one turning pages. I think Kris deserves more page space as her plotline and story is quite an intriguing and deep one. Maybe it could be good to see some Hive viewpoint also?

Part3. I am looking forward to it. But please publish children of time vol 3 first!
