2.5/5. Not my favorite Kleypas (by a long shot) but I liked this one better than the craven book everyone loves. I really dislike the narrator though, so I simply cannot recommend the audiobook.

How well she understood guilt, the self-hatred it caused, especially in the absence of forgiveness. ~ Lisa Kleypas

What a wonderful story of redemption and healing. This trilogy is probably my 2nd favorite of Kleypas' series. Really really loved these stories and characters.

Kleyplas does well tying in characters from her other books, as well as developing this story to complement and continue bow street runner series. Enjoyed and appreciated courage and patience of MC.

Character development A+++++
Second time around this book took me almost a month. I would enjoy reading it when I picked it up, but it was very hard to actually do so. I found myself counting pages to the end of the chapter often. I still think that there is an interesting h/H dynamic but the plot and the style didn't quite hold up for me for the second reading.

Wonderful story. This is the first Lisa Kleypas book I've read, and it won't be the last. The story of Nick and Lottie is wonderul and I look forward to reading more by this author.

This book felt like the hero from one put and the heroine from another book met and fell in love. It was weird.

No major misteps, enjoyable to read, but bland and predictable. And some many things were just so...convenient. It was odd...and boring.
She focuses on a lot of scenes you've seen a hundred times before, and I remember reading a few things she skimmed over that, if gone into more detail, would have made this a more interesting read.
I did like Nick's audacity and balls in telling Lord R how it was going to be before he was even married. I was intrigued by the thread of him reapplying himself, but that stopped dead (again, no details). I was expecting it in the epilogue, but was disappointed by a trite snippet that tried to tie the whole thing into the book title. Ugh.
The whole "sexually schooled by a madam" thing would have been interesting if it hadn't been so unnecessary and out of place. Instead, it was just weird and a tad icky.
