I feel like the English translation did a slight disservice to the text, as I ended the book feeling like this would be 5 stars if not for some odd lines and context that may have carried better in the original.
Outside of that, this was a painful, yet cathartic read that I will carry the sentiments and feelings for a long while. The mere existence of being a woman is painful before even experiencing the joys and sorrows of living amongst others, and this story truly does convey how hard it is to want so much for yourself but friends, family, and even strangers all harm you whether intentional or not.

I enjoyed this. The characterization of the house was strong, with an opening line that immediately reeled me in. I think describing a kid as a brat really didn't work for me. I get that it's not supposed to be subtle, but it felt like it made the plot too easy. I wasn't convinced that this child is just inherently evil.
