The back cover copy for this is terrible, but it kind of is for all of Kleypas' books. A lot of the reviews are going to focus on the dude, but this book (and all the others in this series) is really all about the heroine's personal arc. In this case, Haven Travis goes through an abusive marriage that is really realistically described (Kleypas really gets the anxiety and self doubt that abusers can cause in their victims) and much of the book is about her learning to recognize abusive/controlling behavior and setting personal boundaries.
Well-written description of narcissism and abuse.

I wrote this long detailed review for this book and then accidentally deleted it. I'm too mad to write it all over again, but I'll repeat the main parts.
This book is about Haven Travis, the only female Travis sibling. It details her abusive relationship with her first husband, her rebuilding of her life, and relationship with Hardy Cates. I liked this book a lot but I felt like it wasn't quite as good as Sugar Daddy. I thought the relationship between Hardy and Haven moved a bit too fast and didn't spend a lot of time building up. You definitely sense their attraction to each other but they don't spend a lot of time getting to know each other. You still root for Haven and her relationship with Hardy but I wanted more. Even with those gripes it was still a good book though and Lisa Kleypas writing always sucks me in. I have to say so far her contemporary romances have been some of the best of the genre I've read. I'm not really a big contemporary romance fan, but I've really enjoyed this series more than I expected. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

This was terrible for Kleypas, absolutely terrible and was excruciating to read. I gave it 2 stars (barely) for the fact that Kleypas didn’t shy away from showing the ugly realities of NPD relationships, but holy shit reading this book was like watching a 10 car pile up in slow motion.
(Spoilers below)
1. She has all these traumatic issues over the course of years and within a few days of her new life, Hardy Cates walks into her life and is totally obsessed with her
2. Aside from changing her name, Hardy pretty much is just as controlling and emotionally manipulative as Nick and says all of the same things
3. After a few weeks of dating, including him getting friggin shot by her ex, they get engaged and married?! And everyone cheers?! Is it even 6 months after her divorce is final?!
4. Besides dealing with her baggage and having sex, they have nothing in common other than “chemistry”. Seriously, do either of them have hobbies? At all?
Terrible character development for Kleypas. Also the therapist was awful - “what can I do about my ex staking me?” “Oh nothing, he’ll just get increasingly desperate and probably kill you one day”

A gripping, emotional and fun read.
Haven may have come from a wealthy family, but she doesn't want to use that wealth for her self. She didn't have a good marriage. In fact, it was so bad that i wanted to pull out her ex-husband from the book.. yeah, pull him out and cut out his balls. Violence against women is never an easy topic. There were times that i really wanted Nick to be real, just so i can send him to prison my self!
It's good that Hardy came back to her life. Hardy also has a bad past. He didn't have a great childhood. He always wants to save people. He was very sweet to Haven. I like how he understood Haven's situation.
Anywayyy, Hardy and Haven are made of each other. They may have been side tracked at first, but they found each other again. =)
Good plot. Lovable characters. =)

This is my favorite of the Travis series. The one I started with. There’s something that I really connect with in Haven... and Hardy? *swoon*
Beyond that, this novel takes a look at what it can mean to be in an abusive relationship with a spouse (or anyone else) who has Narcissistic Personality Disorder. That’s probably going to be a trigger for some people, so be careful.
Also, this book, like the others in the series, has explicit content. If you want to read the book, but don’t want the content, it’s possible to skip.
