Took me some time to get into the story, but after that it’s a page turner. Lots of symbolism, so paying attention while reading is helpful. Left me a bit confused, Ruiz Zafón does not hand out answers.

no puedo poner en palabras el nivel de paseo mental que me acaba de pasar Zafon, genuinamente, entendí todo pero no entendí nada y me estoy ahogando en mí propio llanto

As always, a pleasure to read. Carlos Ruiz Zafon is such an expert at story-telling, it is always impossible to put his books down. Much darker than the Shadow of the Wind. I would have given this 5 stars, but I the novel lacked the innocence that Daniel's character brought to SotW, which was the crux of the delicate balance between the dark side of Barcelona and the endearing naiveté of Daniel et. al. As a prequel to SotW, I can't wait to see what the next two books bring.

Si quieren empezar/volver a leer, estos libros son excelentes! Rápidos y fáciles porque te atrapan altiro!

When I found out Carlos Ruiz Zafon had a new book I was estatic. His book from few years ago, Shadow of the Wind, tops my all time favorite books. I was less impressed with this book. I felt this book was too similar to Shadow of the wind, had too many characters that were not fully developed, and the ending was not that satisfying - I am still confused. I am curious to hear from other Shadow of the Wind fans to hear what they thought about this book.

Maybe it was just the mood I was in but it was a very slow read. It also gave me nightmares, which is wierd because it isn't really scary- just a little dark
