i really loved the shadow of the wind, and this didn’t disappoint. by turns a gothic masterpiece, action thriller and cultural horror, i was genuinely involved and captured by the narrative in a way i haven’t been since i was a child.

This is my second time reading The Angel's Game. I first read Books 1-3 of The Cemetery of Forgotten Books series seven years ago and really loved them. I'm reading them again to refresh my memory in preparation for the final book.

The Angel's Game is Book 2 in the series but is actually a prequel to Book 1. Unlike The Shadow of the Wind, it is not as captivating and takes more time to get into the plot. The protagonist, David Martin, is a darker, less endearing character than Daniel Sempere, making him more suited to the ominous Barcelona atmosphere Carlos Ruiz Zafon is known for. As someone who does not gravitate to gloomy, sinister plots, I still enjoyed reading it and can appreciate how well-written it is. The book has several layers, which makes you think more as a reader. It's challenging in a good way.

on the one hand, fun spooky vibes. on the other hand, understanding the plot requires a level of critical thinking that i do not possess. 650 pages of head scratching

Loppu oli all over the place, melkein missään ei ollut mitään järkeä.
