This story was definitely suspenseful, however that’s kinda all it did for me, the characters fell a little flat and the two main characters dynamic definitely needed more development it just felt oddly placed. Overall it kept me reading and I did like the story!

After a rough end of term, Ren's ready to travel home with her friend and fellow scholarship student Timmons. What shes not expecting is 2 rich kids to be slumming it and using the public transportation portal along with the usual crowd. Something goes terribly wrong with their trip leaving this odd group of 6 university students lost in the middle of nowhere. Think things can't get any worse? One of them is dead and everyone is keeping secrets. Can the 5 survivors work together to find their way home?

I liked and enjoyed it.
It took me a bit to get into the world building and getting to know the magic system and how it worked (expected for a fantasy) but when i got into it, it was interesting, and I liked it a lot, I'd have liked to see more of it involved in the story after they get lost.
The way their lessons/talks in class about ethics and morality on the use of magic and what makes someone a "monster/villain" blends with Ren's character arc was something that got me (the twist at the didn't shock me that much but I wasn't expecting it) and made me think in which perspective are we going to keep seeing her? Like, what's the difference between her and her actions and everything she hates about the upper-class? The difference in seeing her as a heroine or a villain in the story is super interesting and enjoyable if it's well done in the next books.
