The poetry in this volume lives up to the title - its electric and vital. Highly readable and dare I say, even entertaining while getting at her personal experience in ways essays or fiction could not reach.

A wonderful collection from Ewing. Personally I enjoyed the prose poems and illustrative ephemera as much and often more than the poetry.

This poetry was, as the title suggests, electric. It flowed, it stuttered, it stretched and punched and swung. With masterful use of language and vivid imagery, fantasy and reality intertwined in one of the most successfully innovative books of poetry I’ve ever read.

I've seen a lot of people talking about how good this book is, and I thought it quite lived up to the hype. Combining poetry, prose, and visual art, Ewing talks about her experiences as a teacher, her childhood neighborhood, and black girlhood and womanhood. It's by turns intimate and epic, and really quite an amazing achievement.
