I was probably going to rate The Quiet Room 3.5/5 up until the last chapter.
That ending was complete bullshit. Absolutely nothing in the entire book was resolved. It just ends on a cliffhanger with every single thread left up in the air. It’s actually crazy, I turned the last page and wouldn’t have been shocked if Roundabout - Yes started to play with “to be continued” written across the page.
I know middle book syndrome is a thing but bloody hell, this takes the cake.
Also, just as an aside, when characters that are hopping dimensions by walking around following coincidences start exclaiming that things are impossible- especially when this things aren’t anymore weird than the stuff they’ve been doing the whole time - it really makes it hard to invest in the book.
“Oh of course dimensional hopping along the meechant radiants is possible! I do it half a dozen times a week! But a room that you can access any dimensional stream‽ That’s just craaazzzyy! It’s mumbo jumbo insanity and you should be locked up for even considering the possibility that’s it’s real!”
Like why is THAT where we are meant to draw the line?
A fun ride that slaps you in the face with “Find out next time in Rabbits 3: the THREEqual!” In the last 5 pages.

I read the first book and found the premise of the plot to be compelling and addictive readable and yet the second installment only heightened the frustrating tropes of the first book by repeating them over and over again with barely any pay off or answers to the questions posed in the first book all this story felt like was an unnecessary exercise in communication and a set up for a third installment that hopefully provides some answers.
