⭐️4 - “I hope it’s everything you want it to be.” “What?” I asked. “The rest of your life.” I thought it was a nice sentiment, but I couldn’t help but say, “Well, we won’t really know until the very end, will we?”

I honestly don’t know what to rate this book

Visceral experience of pain and love

I started and finished this book in a night. My pillow was streaked with tears. This book is so close to perfection. It's difficult to write a review that would do it justice.

Jace and Emi's story is one of survival, redemption, and love.

Living next door to each other at the end of a long dirt road, their houses are as desolate as the families that inhabit them.
Both families live in poverty with single parents. Emi's a mean drunk; Jace's a loving drug addict.

They find solace and hope in each other. Even when they have nothing, they have everything they need in each other. They are alive because of one another.

Circumstances and child protective services tear them away from each other. Over a decade passes without contact between the two...that is until a fictional book pops up on the best seller list, and it happens to be Emi's story. Written by Jace.

The story weaves through grief, trauma, forgiveness, and healing.
There are plenty of trigger warnings throughout this book, and they will tear at your heart and soul.

Renee Carlino is masterful in her dialogue and telling of this story. This book is a visceral experience. You feel the pain and longing. You fell the anger and abdandoment. The emotions are well worth the ride.
