This one was sent to me by a friend who swears she thought it was about something else. Because it is definitely a book about how it's ok to be a childless spinster in your 40s. Which I am. And which I'm actually also ok with :).
Honestly, this book really might have been helpful to me in my late 30s. But now, I'm really happy with my life. I will admit that I didn't think I'd end up on my own, but now that I'm here, there are a lot of freedoms that I love. Do I sometimes wish there was someone else to take the trash out? Sure. But I actually have really great neighbors so if I was having a really bad day, I'm pretty sure I could make that happen.
I've never really thought about how lucky I am to live in a time where I'm not being persecuted as a witch because I'm on my own. I'm able to work and support myself. I have options that women before me didn't always have and I'm grateful for that. Overall, this is a good book although it may be more useful to someone in their 30s than in their 40s.

I feel very seen by this book. Thank you Rebecca at Book Riot and Doree and Kate from the Forever35 podcast for telling me to read it.

Loved this. It felt so honest and incredibly timely for me and other women who are approaching 40 or just past it, who have not become mothers. As I grapple daily with both the grief and the complex feelings of being exactly where I want to be, but also not having a child, I read and reread passages of this book.
When I’m surrounded by women with children, and feel desperately alone, I’ll remember passages of this book. That’s a 5 star book.

Story of a middle-aged woman dealing with a mid-life crisis, minus the kids and family bit. I appreciated her openness and mixed emotions regarding her status as a single "woman of a certain age," though her musings on love, joy, and female independence were not incredibly insightful. In conclusion: "There are no happy endings, only good editing." This book had neither a happy ending, nor good editing, hence the one star rating.

I flip flopped often between slight amusement and boredom with this audio book.
On a completely unrelated note, the voice actor that read this audio book also narrated the instructional book about potty training that I listened to recently. It took me until at least the end of CD 1 to place this narrator's voice. HA!
