Both educational and entertaining, particularly for wildlife lovers. A great piece of environmental writing that provides a glimpse into an unknown and foreign to me subject while making it approachable and easily understandable.

Coming into this book knowing absolutely nothing on fish owls or their conservation, this managed to be an interesting read. The book is evocative and allows to reader to immerse themselves in the Russian environment discussed. A book that is easy to get into despite lack of knowledge in the area as the author writes a fairly detailed account of his experiences that entertain even the casual reader.
