This... was not what I was expecting nor wanting. First the positives.

I loved the references to all the dofferent myths and legends. Fairytales and folktales. It added to the atmosphere beautifully.
Additionally, the writing, while not what I enjoy was beautifully done and really matched the vibes of the book.

Now, onto why I gave it 3*. This book is HEAVY! I am a person with few triggers and none that stop me from reading. I enjoy dark romance and dark fantasy and can read both without flinching. But this book had me squirming and uncomfortable most of the time. There is an overabundance of child abuse and psychological abuse I was not prepared for. Because I don't have triggers to worry about I don't normally check them and for the first time ever I wished I had.

I'm conflicted on this one. The prose was purple and beautiful, but the story itself didn't pull me in the way I expected it to. For such a short book, it took me 6 weeks to read it. I thought it was mysterious and ethereal, but had large moments where I also didn't care.

I have a new character to add to my most hated of all time list though because when I tell you I hate Indigo, I mean it.

Much darker than I expected! An engrossing story about how reality and magic can blend together, especially as a way to deal with trauma.
