This is a cute romance! I read the second book in the series first (Better Hate Than Never), and I enjoyed it more than this one. There just wasn't a lot of depth to this story - a lot of the depth happened before the start of the written story and is implied. Which is totally fine, just didn't lead to a super engaging read.
I enjoyed Jamie and Bea as characters and I love a fake relationship plotline, so those were redeeming qualities of the story for me.

the publishing world took a look at me in the year of our lord 2022, and decided that after twelve years of book reviewing, ten hair colours changes, seven tattoos, and two degrees on literature - and a full on thesis on Shakespeare retellings, this will be the year it will offer me something SO utterly specifically aligned with who I am as a person and my tastes that I won't be able to recover from the luck of it all.
and it's true!!! because how did i manage to find not one, but TWO whole romance series inspired by Shakespeare's comedies, and they're all so full of mirth and fun and honesty and love (and so many types of love) - and one of them is by Chloe Liese, one of my most beloved authors I discovered this year? I am one lucky reader, and this struck of serendipity makes me believe in my little bookish fate so much.
So yes, this was lovely and fun and everything I wanted from a fluff, comedic romance with the typical Liese's signature: the fun playlists, the inclusivity, and the softness of two people falling for each other. I'm so glad this story founds its way to the world, and I am so glad it will have a continuation!!! (and it's inspired by The Taming of the Shrew.... Lord, hold MY ear plugs, because I'm about to swoon; very much excited for it and super curious to meet this version of Kate and Petruchio)
