all of this wouldn't happen if they installed love and deepspace and saved anime boy thirst trap edits in the allied mastercomputer.

Didn’t know this is a collection of short stories. I’ve heard so much about this horror classic but it was just alright for me. Decided not to continue with the rest of the stories.

I forgot I had a Goodreads account but I started reading again
Overall this was good, I rarely read body horror
At first I didn’t connect the dots that it was literally about artificial intelligence because I thought everything about computers were just metaphors but then I thought, what else it could be about, then I drew a blank so that’s when I knew to take it literally

To sum it up it was about the last 5 people getting stripped away from what makes themselves, themselves. Like getting their character torn apart by AM because AM is full of hate and projecting its lack of identity on those humans with identity

It wasn’t revolutionary to me and it didn’t give me the chills like Animal Farm (Animal Farm? Really?)

I would read it again

As this is a collection of short stories, I feel the need to write my thoughts of each one as well as the rating I gave it so that everyone could understand the overall rating of my read.

1."I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream"
The reason I bought this book. This is the story about a group of people who have been kept alive for 109 years by a computer named AM just for the fun of it. They are tortured and played with by this machine and the only way out is by dying, but AM has made them immortal. The only thing that bothered me was that the one female character is automatically a slut and I did not understand the scene where she is hit at all.
Grade: 4/5

2."Big Sam Was My Friend"
Well, he's able to teleport and he lost the love of his life because of this ability, at least he says it's because of it. Honestly, fear of the unknown is the best explanation for his loss, but at the same time, his courage to face this void is what made the story actually really good.
Grade: 5/5

3."Eyes of Dust"
I think I can sum this one up in a couple of sentences: two weird people make a weirder Person. What the hell is happening???
Grade: 4/5

4."World of the Myth"
Oh God this one's creepy as hell. What if fear had a form? What if it was able to take any form or shape? What if it was able to show you how you truly looked like? Would you have the courage to ask it to take that form?
While that part was brilliant, once again we have a female character that is branded with the word SLUT on her forehead just because she flirted with one crew member she is a slut.
Grade: 4/5

5."Lonelyache"
This is where it got weird and I started to lose my patience. The main character is a man-whore (yes, I am using that word) and after all these affairs he starts believing that a monster shares his apartment. That thing just came out of no where and it was confusing. At the same time, I was starting to notice the slut shaming was a common theme in these stories.
This was the part where things started to drag.
Grade: 3/5

6."Delusion for Dragonslayer"
What.
The.
Hell?
This story was so confusing, I barely understood a thing from it. Also, once again slut shaming and a weird scene about a girl having sex with a monster. Why?
Grade: 2/5

7."Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes"
This guy was hitting the jackpot every single time. Sadly, this story did not hit the jackpot for me. Skimped read it as I got tired of all the SLUT SHAMING!!!!!!!!!
Grade: 1/5

Overall Grade: 3/5

Listened to the audio book narrated by Ellison himself, as good a story teller as he is a writer. An absolute master of his craft.
