Gripping from page one. A true page turner. From the moment I opened this book, I found it hard to put down. If you want a chilling, thought provoking and disturbing read, look no further. Adam Nevill has a masterful way of painting a believable world that stays in your mind days after reading.

This was definitely not my cup of tea. It was over 600 pages of what should have been slow building horror but I was bored. The violence against women also felt like a questionable plot device, with all the female characters feeling one dimensional. This is a 2.5 for me so I shall round up.

This was incredible however I have to agree that cutting out maybe 200 pages would have made this a 5 star ⭐️

This book…

Why the hell hasn’t Adam Nevill been hailed the new king of horror yet?

Seriously, I think his books are the only ones that truly freak me out when it comes to horror books nowadays. He’s my favorite horror author hands down, five ways to Sunday.

I felt things when I read this. I felt helpless, I felt like I had to watch my back, I felt ACTUAL hatred for one of the antagonists. That’s the mark of a good writer.

No One Gets Out Alive is a ghost story, a survival story, and also real life horror. The horror of regular people is just as terrible as the otherworldly in this one. I had a white knuckle grip at some parts.

If you like —
• hauntings
• great survival arcs
• badass female MC
• real life horror aspects
• folk horror
• descriptive books

This is for you.

~ SIDE NOTE ~

The Netflix movie DOES NOT do this book justice whatsoever.

Really enjoyed how much this spooked me. That does drop off once the book shifts to the next part and perhaps the book would've have been better to end before that shift. A good ending though. Just a fun relentless horror (but tw for violence against women)

There's probably a really good book in here somewhere but it's cluttered up by a really unbearably slow-moving first half and an overlong last third that, while I actually thought it was the best part of the book, does not fit with the first two thirds. The finale really made me think of Nevill's Last Days, which I liked much more.

Grueling experience - what happens to the heroine is bad, but suffering the book to the end was also an experience in pain.
