This is the first of the Agatha Raisin's series. I could not put it down. I can see how readers can become addicted to M C Beaton's characters and therefore books. I really enjoyed this easy read. You can easily love and hate Agatha Raisin at the same time. She is rude, selfish in a way and has trouble going from a high-flying PR Executive in London to a retired Agatha in a small village in the Cotswolds. There is no doubt I got attached to the characters. The AR books are a far cry from Agatha Christie's books, which I love, but they are still really good. Can't wait to read more on this village sleuth.
Another fun series to start. Agatha is unlikable at the beginning, but by the end you can't help but like her. I will be reading the next book soon.

Fun, quircky, quick read. It somehow reminded me of Ian Sansom's book, inthat it is set in a small village where life is apparently very calm, but indeed it hosts the sameselection of homan cases, just in smaller numbers than a large city.
I'm glad one of my friends suggested this title to me

I took me awhile but Agatha Raisin finally grew on me. I will have to check out M.C. Beaton's other mystery series.
Not sure why these are so popular. Absolutely dreadful writing, cardboard cut out characters and not much of a plot. Each to their own I suppose!
Very cute, light read mystery. Agatha Raisin reminds me of my Nana.
really fun characters and setting, but I’d have liked more body & depth to the mystery element
The Quiche of Death is my first Agatha Raisin. I got it and several others based on the recommendation of a good friend. From my five star review, you may deduce, in the best detective sort of way, that I loved it. It is full of fun.
I should admit that I had seen parts of a few episodes of the British mini-series. I suspect that prepared me for a story that was full of fun and an Agatha Raisin who was, at least on her surface, a less than a cuddly protagonist, certainly not a Ms. Marple.
M.C. Beaton writes wonderfully, certainly, in my not so humble opinion, in the same category as Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers in both genre and skill.
I am actually reading Introducing Agatha Raisin, a single volume containing her first two works. I am anxious to read The Vicious Vet. I will let you know how that goes.
