Rufa, Nancy, Lydia, and Selena Hasty live in their ancestral home, Melismate, which, after their father's suicide, is in danger of being sold and in need of many repairs. Rufa and Nancy decide to go to London to marry rich and save the estate. Of course, nothing goes as planned, but despite all, the home is saved and all ends well.

With all the twists and turns in these stories, you would expect the author not to insult the reader with such a neat and tidy ending. I found it rather hard to maintain interest until the final third of the book and thought many of the storylines were ridiculous.

Good writing about people I would want to shoot from cannons. Even the dead guy. Especially the dead guy.
