I'm enjoying the world in this series but I have to say that I thought Fane paled in comparison to Bas. Not that they were in competition for Serra (who I really liked) but just as a character. We got evil villain POV in the first book but it wasn't long into Bas's POV that I realized he was antagonist, not a villain. I'm really looking forward to his book.

Blood Assassin is my debut read for Alexandra Ivy and it will not be my last. I have heard so many good things about this author and I was glad for the opportunity to receive a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Being an avid fan of all things paranormal, I am always looking for stories in that genre, which will keep me on the edge of my seat and have me yearning for more. Blood Assassin did that and more. The story was so intriguing that I went and bought a copy of the previous book in the series. (NB Blood Assassin can be read as a stand-alone).

The story centres on Fane, (a sentinel) and Serra (a psychic and telepath). These two have been in love with each other from the moment they met. However, Fane was determined to keep his distance as he felt that giving in to his feelings would complicate his duty as a sentinel. Serra tried everything to get him to admit his feelings, but he refused to budge. His determination to keep his distance led to his decision to leave Valhalla. However, his plans for departure were disrupted when Serra was forced to help save a kidnapped child. What followed is a story of intrigue, action, drama sprinkled with some hot and sexy romance.

The characters in their own way were awesome, but the ones that stood out for me were Fane and Serra. Fane is the strong, silent type. Fane was raised under a strict and stringent regime which taught him to keep his feelings under control. This, however, did not stop him from loving Serra. His love for her is so profound that he will gladly give his life to keep her from harm. I like stories where the female heroine is portrayed as being strong and independent with a sweet and sexy side. As a result, I was immediately drawn to Serra. She is not afraid to go after what she wants and this includes Fane.

The romance was hot and the action non-stop. The story is fast paced it held my attention to the end. The story ended well, but based on events it’s clear that there is next book in the making and I can’t wait to get my hands on it when it is released.

Overall, I felt it was an enjoyable read. If you are looking for a unique paranormal story, then I recommend that you read this series. DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Just like the first book I failed to see the appeal of the male lead. Fane is good looking, bad ass, and has the ability to completely shield himself from Serra psychic abilities, but then again those are traits found in every Sentinel. Fane barely speaks to Serra during the decades that they have known each other but occasionally gives her a carving. While I could see her finding him intriguing, her desperation to make him hers went over my head. Unless you consider that he is the only man that refuses her sexual advances. I also kept waiting for an explanation of why Fane kept refusing Serra. I get that his job is important and demanding, but so did she. And yes his bond Callie who he formerly watched over was strong and important, but she is Serra foster sister and Serra knew there was never anything sexual or romantic between them. Then after he was free of Callie he decided to leave instead of finally pursuing a relationship. Which to me made no sense and was never properly explained. There was honestly nothing keeping these two characters apart, except a lame excuse. So when the two finally did come together it was no big deal to me.

Also like in the first book the bad guys were way more interesting than the good guys. Once again they were shrouded in mystery but also well developed. And once again there is no likely hood of seeing them again in future books. I’m really confused by the author initially creating these amazing foes, only to have them be easily defeated and wiped off the face of the earth. But the good news is a semi-bad guy will be sticking around so we will hopefully be getting his story.

I won’t be totally giving up on this series, because I do love the bad guys. But since the good guys take up most of each book and I find them boring I won’t be eagerly anticipating the next release.

BLOOD ASSASSIN is full of unique paranormal goodness. If you are looking for a new twist on paranormal romance THE SENTINELS series is a must read. Alexandra Ivy has created a world that sucked me in and had me quickly swiping pages on my Kindle. In BLOOD ASSASSINS Fane is learning to live with the absence of his bond with Callie after transferring it to her mate Duncan. Although not in love with Callie she had been Fane's main responsibility and the one person that he cared deeply for over the years. Now with that connection gone Fane has decided that he needs to start over and that means leaving Valhalla. However, Serra wants something very different for Fane and she wants to lay all of her wants on the table.

After having tried and failed to gain Fane's attention in the past Serra knows that it's now or never when it comes to Fane. After trying and failing with Fane Serra's destiny is altered by an outside influence that has taken her free will from her. Now on a mission to save a child that's been kidnapped Serra's own life is directly tied to her cooperation in finding the missing girl. Things turn out to be much more complicated than she first thought. There is more to what is being asked of her than what she was initially led to believe. Despite Fane's resistance to becoming romantically involved with Serra he is drawn into protecting her. Fane has to make sure that Serra makes it through this ordeal alive and whole. Fane is at Serra's side and he is now battling his own desires for her as well as keeping her safe.

Alexandra Ivy has created yet another paranormal series that I am more than happy to get lost in. I'll definitely be looking out for the next book in the series.

Fane is a muscled warrior, a guardian Sentinel and now that his decade long protection of Callie is over he’s decided to leave Valhalla and go back to the monastery to train new Sentinels. But Serra, the powerful and sassy psychic, has been in love with him for years and she doesn’t want him to go. Except she can’t change his mind. It’s only when she’s kidnapped that Fane comes to his senses. But is he too late?

Action, intrigue, mystery, steaminess, and great characters, this paranormal romance has it all. There are good guys, bad guys, an ambiguous guy, badasses and strong women. Fane is too alpha for my personal tastes, but that’s really my only complaint. This is an excellent story that kept me turning the pages as long as real life didn’t interfere. I’m enjoying this series so far and looking forward to more.
