Kate Kellgren is a fantastic narrator! I am new to classic literature so I still struggle with the language/sentence structure of it but her character voices totally immersed me in the story. I enjoyed the story as well. Definitely a bit slow paced, and definitely "rich people problems" but I did eventually find myself very invested in the characters and the plot.

I've originally read this in 2014 in translation but now I'm finally feeling confident enough in my english to read classic works and I've been wanting to reread this for some time. So this is a review for my 2021 re-read

I don't know whether to rate it at 4 or 5 stars, tbh.
I really like how sassy Austen could be and how sharp she made her social commentary, yet in this particular book I felt like the sass was less and writing style was more simplistic than in [b:Mansfield Park|45032|Mansfield Park|Jane Austen|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1397063295l/45032._SY75_.jpg|2722329], which remains my favourite novel out of the 3 I've read. - Maybe it has something to do with me reading this and Persuasion within a few days while my MP read spanned multiple months so I could really enjoy and analyze that story.

I really like the way Austen did her social commentary about the need of women to marry and having to depend on men (husbands and/or brothers) - yet Jane Austen paid importance to the institute of marriage and gave great advice of what sort of partner one needs, and how one should interact with a husband or wife to have a happy marriage - that's kind of advice I really appreciate and I think it's still relevant to this day. Austen's heroines were not perfect (although Austen's moral compass and calls for virtue always comes off as very clear in her novels) - but I feel like I learn a lot about how to interact with family, friends, nemesis and potential suitors from her novels

I'm excited to read more of Austen, perhaps I may even read Emma, Sense and Sensibility + all her minor works this year. However, I'll be saving Northanger Abbey till the day I get more familiar with late 18 century Gothic Novels (besides, my copy of Northanger Abbey is with my friend who's been stuck in Czech Republic as a foreign student because of the pandemic)

Book ranking:
1 Mansfield Park
2 Pride and Prejudice (moved up after 2022 reread)
3 Persuasion
4 Emma
5 Sense and Sensibility
6 Norhtanger Abbey

Heroine ranking:
1 Fanny Price (MP)
2 Anne Elliot (Persuasion)
3 Emma Woodhouse (Emma)
4 Catherine Morland (NA)
5 Elizabeth Bennet (P&P)
6 Elinor Dashwood (S&S)
