For me, there is still no other fantasy story that has such a wonderful and well thought-out world. I was completely hooked.

But the book was also a bit lengthy and frustrating when the protagonist did not learn from his mistakes over and over again.

Nevertheless, the story is still super interesting and I love some of the supporting characters so much (Auri, Elodin and Tempi) that I am very exited to meet them again in the next book.

4.5 stars. An incredible sequel, I want to start again and experience this story all over again.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a great book. However, I didn’t like that there were major time jumps,
like when Kvothe’s ship sinks, they skip right over that. Like, there’s more to the story, and the writer deliberately skipped a few months of his journey. I found that frustrating
but despite the issues, I loved it.

Good follow-up to Name of the Wind, but Kvothe continues to be a bit too good at everything. His temper and rash decisions continue to be a big part of his flaws, but it does seem that the world revolves around him a little too often for my taste. Still thoroughly enjoyed the book, but definitely a decline in quality from Name of the Wind.

This book wasn't perfect. It drug in places, as I'd guess most books of this length probably do at some point or another. But I still feel it earned 5 stars. It's a piece of a bigger story...a really good story. The last chapter stood out to me as a particularly impressive bit of writing. It was only 3 or 4 pages long, and didn't seem to be particularly crucial to the overall story. But I was definitely impressed with the feelings that the writer was able to invoke with such few words.
