I picked this up because I love cookbooks and this one was nominated for a goodreads choice award this year. No, I am not a vegan.

This is a beautiful cookbook and the photos are definitely tempting. Toyota takes classic comfort foods (cross-cultures) and vegan-izes them. The first chapter has info on how to make things like coconut-bacon or almond bacon. and other vegan substitutes for things like parmesan cheese. Many of the recipes included these foundational elements. While the recipes sounded tempting, a lot of them seemed to take a lot of time and effort and as a mom (who knows her kids won't eat any of the food from this book) most nights, I really don't have the desire to cook elaborate recipes that take more than 40 minutes.

Yes. Just absolutely, a billion times, YES.

This cookbook helped me along my journey to become vegan over a year ago now, and I'm so grateful. The recipes are easy to follow, absolutely delicious, and taste just like their non-vegan counterparts, but without the animal cruelty. What's not to love? I can have my cake and eat it, too!

Whether you're vegan, looking to become one, or just want to reduce your intake of animal products- try this!

Loved this book and love Hot For Food!

My family and I eat mostly plant-based but we are not 100% vegan. When I began my plant journey, Lauren Toyota was the person who really made me feel like plant-based was a lifestyle I could sustain. I love hamburgers, bacon, hotdogs, pancakes, cupcakes. If it's bad for you, I want it. I truly felt like going plant-based meant I would have to give up those comfort foods I grew up with and love but Lauren proved me wrong.

This book is truly great for those, like my husband, who do not enjoy YouTube but love a good cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow along and she manages to make you laugh while you're cooking with her raunchy humor.

Two thumbs up, all the way!!!

To some people, vegan = healthy..... but that is SO NOT THE CASE, I mean it can be, but those terms aren't necessarily synonymous . Although plant based eating can be very healthy, Lauren explains that this cookbook isn't one of those cookbooks. It's veganized comfort food, and I can't wait to make so many of these recipes!

I really enjoyed this to broaden my repertoire of cool vegan recipes. Some of it is really complex, but it's only because there's a lot that goes into veggifying some popular comfort foods. My main gripe is that some of the steps are skimmed over a little or not particularly descriptive, and I was left wondering what exactly I needed to do. Otherwise this is a great book, if anything just to become more aware of some of the sheer magic that is turning traditional foods into vegan style.
