I do like the Jack Ryan series, but sometimes you get bogged down in the lengthy details of Tom Clancy. It's complicated, because I do love his non-fiction tone, and well researched stories, but this one got a little long in the middle.

reading this book after watching the movie and still wondering why the movie failed badly :/ lots of plots were missing in the movie. and am glad that i decided to read the book after all. probably this is the one of the best work from mr clancy. this book had some issues with pacing & characters. in terms of realistic world building on the grand scale it did great !

I have a general rule that an author gets about 50 pages to gain my interest. That's plenty of time to sketch out a few key players and a general sense of the plot. I gave Clancy 100 pages on this book since it's such a long book. At 100 pages I knew there were a bunch of characters from multiple countries and some plan to do something somewhere but i wasn't sure what or where or why....oh, and i knew that Jack Ryan was out of shape. I should have known it was a sign of how tedious this book would be....there's a reason I have a 50 page rule.

A good Tom Clancy novel, and although I will always like Hunt for Red October best, Sum of All Fears wasn't bad at all. The Soviet Union is breaking apart, and Jack Ryan has engineered a peace treaty in the Middle East, that should stick. The world is a much better place now, or is it?

One of my favorite Tom Clancy books and the first one of his that I read!

The plot is intricate and multi-leveled, and the characters are well-developed. It's both technical and nerdy, and just a fun book to read.
