As someone who watched the films first and loved them, I can confidently say the books are SO much better. I loved all the little details and plot points that the film missed and just the description of Tris’ emotions that couldn’t be translated to film.
One piece of advice I would give if you are reading this after watching the films is that the characters of Tris and especially Four are (in my opinion) very different to the books compared to the films. I would recommend starting the books with this in mind and you will enjoy it and relate to the characters better.
Even if you haven’t watched the films, oh my goodness I would recommend this book to anyone. Cant wait to read the next one.

Because of this many choices that the characters makes feel weird, unnecessary or down right dumb.
As a dystopian it fails to make a debate about the current topics.
But it has a lot of action and if you just want a quick read without much to think about I would say this would work. Just check the trigger warnings.
I do kinda like that the romantic interest thinks of Tris as a strong person and treat her as such. I just wished that the characters felt more real.

I would recommend that everyone even remotely interested in YA Dystopia should pick this book up at some point. Experiencing the book for the first time is a memorable experience, one that a lot of people can get something from.

I don’t think I loved it as much as I did the first time, but I still had a fun time reading it. I have only read the series once before, although have watched the movies many many times. It’s nice to see and compare the differences.
When I first read it I remember really liking Four but I wasn’t a fan of him in some scenes this time, (he was out of line and annoyingly rude at times lol) but he ended up being alright in the end and loosening up and I guess that is why I liked his character the first time reading.
Now that I’m older I also didn’t really like how Al’s death was discussed…
However, just those teeny negatives aside, I think I will always love the Divergent series. Although I didn’t quite get to experience this era at the same age my peers did, it is still nostalgic to me and holds a place in my heart. I haven’t and probably never will leave the dystopian era.
I also love the author’s story, how she wrote it in such a short amount of time and voila!
I will be rereading the 2nd book next year. Now, I am off to rewatch the movies yet again. 🔥
