This is one of the books on my Kindle that I've been reading forever but never finished. Had I been in a better headspace (I'm in a terrible reading slump, boo) I would have given this a higher rating but a 3 star would have to do with this one. I love Roni Loren's writing, but I was so disconnected with the story and characters,
so it's not you, book, it's me.
The last 15% or so broke me, it was so beautiful.

Unspeakably kinky. Loved every second of it. Has a deep and thoughtful plot too.

I’ve read this book as a stand-alone and it was my first book by Roni Loren. Overall I really liked the story. The distribution of the roles was more uncommon as the majority of book don’t depict this dynamic.
I loved Gibson’s progress, how he coped with his past and how he learned to overcome deeply rooted judgmental thoughts against himself. He learned to just be and accept himself in all levels.
At the same time Sam seems to be pretty sure in her role though it’s said she’s new to it. She has a very troubled past herself and bears trauma from her teenage years.
Together Sam and Gibson manage to beat their fears and work as the perfect team they are to build a relationship.
„And the man who’d fought to keep his desires in the dark for so long begged for everything, all under the gleaming sunshine, where there was no place to hide.“

This was a definite first for me. I've never read a story featuring a female Domme and her male sub, but I have to say it's made quite the impression on me.
As expected this novel was beyond hot and took me out of my comfort zone and frankly I'm still not completely sure how I feel about the situation. However, I'm positive I know how I feel about Sam and Gibson. I love them and the connection they share. I love how their first priority was to make each other feel safe and that trust was a must between them before they would proceed to something more permanent. When a scene in a book evokes tears in me because I can feel the emotions from the characters so completely that it shatters my heart, that's a great fucking story.
I've yet to be disappointed by any book I've read by Roni Loren and I don't foresee it happening any time soon. She blends kink and romance like I've never read before. So, bring on the pain because she makes it feel so good.
*I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I'm pretty sure I'm just over this series, and Gibson was so irritating that I spent the whole time annoyed at the fact that it was a romance.
Sorry, book, it's me.
