A good overview of the few knowable facts and many claims about Eva Braun's life. There isn't much god evidence about her; most post-war statements and memoirs are self-serving and the author patiently sorts out what can safely be believed. Scholars who broadly generalized and defined the power of women in the upper echelons of the Third Reich are also taken to task. In many instances, these scholars believed the reports of Nazis desperate to keep their lives and livelihoods intact after the war when it came to the subject of women, while interrogating other claims.
At only about 250 pages (plus lots of notes), there isn't all that much about Evan Braun the person; instead it's a theory of what life was like in Hitler's inner circle (mainly hypocritical and cutthroat). It's still an interesting, if light, read.

So technically I did not finish this book, but I am done with it 😉. I finished 6/10 of the audio cds that I borrowed from the library; the book was due and I didn’t love it enough to check it out again.
The only actual issue I have with this book is that it’s not the book it claims to be. This book should be called “Hitler’s Inner Circle” or “Homies of Hitler” because the focus of the book is definitely not on Eva Braun. She’s definitely in the book, but dozens of pages go by at a time without any mention of her at all. We meet allllll the people that were closest to Hitler during his years as Chancellor, which includes, but was definitely not limited to Eva, especially given the fact that their relationship was hush-hush for so long.
Eva sure was a crazy one though. The book does focus on her long enough to prove that point. 🤪

This book promises the ultimate and scientific approach to Eva Braun's life, but it doesn't deliver. There just aren't enough facts, so the author ends up rehashing old rumors and then placing question marks behind them: "but was this *really* the case?" No one knows and this book doesn't answer any questions either,
