One of Us is Back is our last trip to Bayview, which for many readers felt like home. McManus allows us to reconnect with our favorite characters, whether that be investigating a suspicious house or having a barbecue in the Rojas backyard. This was an amazing ending to an amazing trilogy, and for fans of the series, I would definitely recommend picking reading.
That being said, the plot definitely takes a back burner on this one, so if you felt so-so about books one and two, maybe this on you should skip! No matter where you stand, McManus is a phenomenal mystery writer, and I cannot wait to see what’s next from her!

Seeing Bronwyn and Nate again bumped it up from 3 to 4 stars! I would love to see an extended epilogue of them, or even a novella!

The Murder Crew is back! And so is an old foe. What will happen when old wounds are reopened?

This was my favorite of all three books. It was the least predictable. I didn't see who was behind everything right away. I also liked the message of the book. That toxic boys who are never punished become toxic men, who think they can get away with anything, and sometimes can and do.

There were still a few predictable parts, so I didn't give it 5 stars, plus, it just wasn't a 5-star read to me.

The narrators were excellent and really brought the story to life. I'd give them 4.75 stars.

I love this series and these characters so it was wonderful to get another story with them.

Jake has been released from jail, atleast temporarily, after a mistrial because of a juror messing things up. And strange, scary things start happening again. The “Bayview four” has grown after the second book in the series and everyone is keeping their eyes peeled to try to figure out what’s going on.

A billboard in town advertises a new game which gives off an immediate ominous feeling.

Then someone is kidnapped and the word Practice is written on their arm.

If the phrase continues as “practice makes perfect” we can assume that two more people will be kidnapped. Maybe they’ll live, maybe not. Who will be taken? Who is doing the kidnapping and why? And does Jake have something to do with it?

We get chapters focusing on Nate, Phoebe, and Addy mostly. I would have enjoyed chapters dedicated to Bronwyn too, her and Nate are my favorites. But Bronwyn is still represented well through other characters’ chapters.

I thought this was another interesting story with lots of twists and turns. I wouldn’t have predicted the outcome but it was both surprising and well explained by the end. I appreciate both!

I enjoyed touching base with these characters again and I’m pretty happy with where their storylines concluded. One made me especially happy but I won’t spoil it by saying who!

Finished this all in one sitting!! My favorite is still the second of the trilogy but I will gladly accept any excuse to read about these characters. I liked Addy’s character growth in this one a lot, and I appreciate that the author didn’t go for any gimmicky pointless breakups between the couples. I thought I figured out the whole plot twist, but it turned out I was only halfway right, which was a super fun surprise!! I wouldn’t mind another ten books just about Bronwyn and Nate but other than that I really loved the conclusion this gave to the trilogy. I thought it was especially clever how the plot ended up tying back to book 1 in such a cohesive way. It really added an extra layer to the original mystery that was so fun. Such a refreshing read to pull me out of my book slump!!
