Another edition of Meanjin containing lots of food for thought.

What does it contain?

Well, this edition’s Meanjin Paper ‘Yulendj Boonwurrung’ is by Boonwurrung Elder N’Arweet Dr Carolyn Briggs AM, offering a history of the first people of Melbourne, the Yaluk-ut Weelam clan of the Boonwurrung. I read this, realising how little I know about Australian history before European settlement.

There is plenty of fiction as well: ‘The Station’ by Angela Meyer could be my favourite, just ahead of ‘Orc!’ by Nicholas Jose.

Articles of particular interest include ‘Lowering the cost of courage’ by Kieran Pender (about whistleblower protection), ‘The Thylacine Icon’ by Kate Kruimink (Tasmania, here I come!) and ‘Defying racism with love and care’ by Thomas Mayo.

No, I didn’t read this edition from cover to cover. I must be in the right mood for poetry: I’ll need to revisit when the time is right.
