I really enjoyed it. The story was complex, and the writing was good.
adventurous medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix

I freely admit I am a sucker for Charles de Lint's urban fantasy books. And his latest is no exception. I enjoyed this thoroughly. Even though it was not, as usual, set in the town of Newford like many of his stories are based (though Newford does sort of thread through the work). Set in the American Southwest with a native southwestern iconography, it is a fun change of pace.

Charming, humane and tough at the same time. I think Mr de Lint successfully navigates the tricky waters of paying respect without appropriating First Nations culture.

Heartwarming

As always I am sad to reach the end of one of his books. Especially those that remind us of how much we need each other. I think about the desert sun in the canyons and all of the stories yet to be told. I look forward to the next.

Another magical novel by the father of urban fantasy. This novel is not set in Newford, but in the American Southwest. De Lint manages to make the desert a fully-formed character. In one of his novels, De Lint uses the phrase "gossip of the land" and his ability to make you feel like you are on the patch of earth he's describing is one of my favorite things about his writing. This novel was very good and contained several interesting characters. My only complaint is that the novel felt too long. I believe it could have used tighter editing, but I still enjoyed the story and am glad that I read it.

Another fantastic read

Another excellent read by De Lint. I have a few qualms about it because of the actions of one character, however. A young, damaged girl cries rape (falsely) on a male character and in these days of encouraging people to #believewomen, that makes me uneasy. False rape accusations are actually rather rare in the real world, and I can't help but dislike anything that encourages people to think otherwise. That storyline doesn't really go anywhere, but I figure people should know about it. I loved the book even so.

A long wait, but worth it.

Charles de Lint has been one of my favourite authors for a very long time, and this new book does not disappoint. I have always wanted to live in his books.
