One of my all time favorite books. I've read it about 4 times and each time I love it a little more.

I never read this book because I thought it was obviously "for girls" when I was at my most voracious period of reading fiction. I liked it quite a bit, and see why it's become such a classic of literature. The characters are well-realized, and the central dramas are interesting. I teared up several times over the course of it, and think I will remember parts of it fondly. I do also think that it has a bit too much moralizing which might turn off other readers, and the chapter where Jo is disheartened from writing for "sensational" magazines is an especially low point in this regard. Still, anyone who likes this kind of book (old and stuffy (and smart and classic)) will probably enjoy it as much as I did (or likely more).
