“ I stopped for a second. If you remember everything, I wanted to say, and if you are really like me, then before you leave tomorrow, or when you’re just ready to shut the door of the taxi and have already said goodbye to everyone else and there’s not a thing left to say in this life, then, just this once, turn to me, even in jest, or as an afterthought, which would have meant everything to me when we were together, and, as you did back then, look me in the face, hold my gaze, and call me by your name”.

I had watched the movie before reading the book and am now happy to have read the book too. It offers new and untold in-sites into Elio's world of feelings. I was surprised of the difference in the perception of Elio between the book and motion picture.
Often, though, I felt very overwhelmed by the amount of lines dedicated to Elio and his feelings, and surprised at how fast the end of the book arose.
Sadly, it was not a fast-read for me and I would not read it again. Nevertheless, the story was immaculately written, LOVED the vocabulary!

2.5 stars for the diamonds in what is otherwise a pile of the author's indulgent shit; I rolled my eyes, even cringed, at this book just as often as I reached for my highlighter.
+1 star because it's gay

The movie is perfect, but the book is even better. Highly recommend reading the book before watching the movie.
