Rose and Fionn

I love Rose, she's so straightforward and such a good match for Fionn. She so fucking funny too. Fionn was definitely obsessed with her from the beginning, there was no turning back once she walked into the clinic. The ending?? THE LETTER??? FIONNNNN OH MY GOD THE MEN YOU ARE.

I’d put Scythe & Sparrow pretty much on par with Leather & Lark, which is to say a perfectly serviceable romance that lacks the spark of unhinged chaos that made Butcher & Blackbird so fun. I feel like Scythe & Sparrow spends a lot more time dealing with the moral/ethical implications of the whole murder thing, too, which I just…don’t feel like added anything to the story (and probably took up time that could’ve been better spent on the romance).

I also just…it feels like Scythe & Sparrow doesn’t have the time (or doesn’t make the time) to really flesh out the romance between Rose and Fionn. Partly because the whole book is sorta happening in the in between spaces of the other books in the series. Partly because Rose and Fionn have that initial spark and just turn it into lust instead of really developing it into a strong emotional connection. They’re not a bad couple; I just wanted them to feel less like they went from “hey you’re hot” to “I can’t live without you” without anything in between.
