Listened to this on audiobook as I feel asleep at night. A story with great imagery and sort of relaxing feel of older fantasy. Really exciting world building, very pro-boat book. Lots of boats, that is. Not a super interesting magic system, as regards the magic in the book. Very interesting boats interacting with magic system. A good and serviceable hero's journey, complete with a deep reckoning with ego and such.

No wonder this is so beloved. Le Guin brings a mythic quality to her delightful fantasy tale, giving the feeling of a saga or song of heroes long past from a faraway culture. The world she crafts is so real and tangible, and her vision of magic as song and language is singular. A must read and I feel dumb for waiting on it.

Kind of hard to approach this book written almost 60 years ago. A lot of firsts. One of the first brown-skin main character in the budding UK/Northern European centered fantasy genre, multiple black characters.. It's weird that it's so.. formulaic in a way that's hard to describe. I guess that's the main problem with reading the precursors well after reading/watching/playing all of the stories that took Earthsea's colors and painted an infinity of other things with it. 

Still a pretty good read, and a short one so definitely worth.
