I was so bored and disinterested in these characters…

The perfect end to 2022 and start of 2023. This book is a sweet and yet realistic romance about two people born on the same day who meet again and navigate a year of friendship, family, love, chaos, and the "Jinx". I am so happy I picked up this book as part of my Christmas/NYE TBR. Highly recommend!

This was a cute book, but I didn't love it like I thought I would. I found it to be rather predictable and I didn't really like the characters. I did love the friendship between Minnie & Leila and I enjoyed the attitude change of Connie. I thought the concept of the book was great, but overall I thought the story was just ok.

This Time Next Year is a fun read. I would recommend this book for anyone looking for a romantic comedy about the misgivings of life. This book takes it a step further by exploring the workings of fate and how fate always wins out. This Time Next Year follows the story of Minnie and later on Quinn- two people born on the same day, in the same hospital, at the same time, and perhaps have had their luck switched as a result. I listened to the audiobook and did struggle a bit with the narration, as each chapter focuses on a different time period. Nonetheless, I think this was a great concept and well-executed.

Pretty ok... there was a lot of fluff for the super quick ending. I was squealing for Quinn to say
the reason I can't date you is this one time when I was 14 I kissed a girl with straight blond hair and I've been trying to find her ever since, hence my dating every girl with straight blond hair. And then Minnie could say OMG! That was me! and we'd have the cutest resolution. I mean, we sort of had that at the end with the lemmings, but it just wasn't the same.

I was glad that Minnie went on a journey of self-discovery. I think that's so important to do at that age and before committing to anything some guy wants you to do or be. Her mom was the real villain for the first half. She was SO negative. I loved how they were always just missing each other, but I wish there had been more "oh I was there too!" or "oh I worked there!" I just wanted THEM to know a little more than they did.

I think their relationship was really glazed over. Lots on Minnie's relationship with other people, but with Quinn, it was always just a "yeah we talked all day" and that was the end of it. I don't know how he arrived at the conclusion of love when (from my perspective) they barely spent any time together at all besides swim day. No texts in between? Complete radio silence for weeks then months on end. If you really liked this person and couldn't wait to see them once a week, you'd probably be texting back and forth at least a little during that time. But no! I think I've fallen for that girl/guy I haven't seen or talked to or heard from. This really bothered me and why it's not a 5 star for me.

A romance which was an easy read. The storyline was quite unique and I liked the idea of two babies being born on the same night in the same hospital and their paths crossing later in life. I liked the vulnerability of the main male character, this is not always the way men are portrayed so it was quite refreshing.
A good read - 4 stars for me.

4 and a half stars
Although I have only read 2 of her books, I am confident that Sophie Cousens is going to be one of those authors that I read everything she writes (like Katherine Center, Jojo Moyes, Emily Henry, etc). I love a good rom-com that does not include graphic sex scenes. The emotions and feelings are so much more interesting--along with the will they/ won't they element (and of course they will--it's a romance, after all!). Can't wait to 1)see the movie they are making based on this book and 2) read more Sophie Cousens!!!
Note: This book took place in 2020 (written before) so I kept wondering how real life 2020 would have effected this story and these characters. I was pleased to note that the author did mention the timing in her acknowledgement P.S.
